NUJ rallies support for Imo Police Command to combat prevalent kidnapping menace

Nigeria Union Of Journalists, NUJ, South East has urged stakeholders and citizens of Imo State to continually support and collaborate with the state Police Command on effort to combat violent crimes, especially the prevalent kidnapping menace in the state.


The professional body led by the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Ezenwa Adiukwu made the call during a courtesy visit to the Commander, Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command, CSP Odeyeyiwa Oladimeji in his office, yesterday.

Adiukwu, represented by the Imo State Council Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma said all citizens should join hands in encouraging the operations of the Anti-Kidnapping unit and the command in general towards achieving effective policing of the state.

The South East NUJ also honoured the police chief with a Selfless Service Award, which Adiukwu said was in recognition of Odeyeyiwa’s immense effort cum contributions in crime control and human life protection in Imo State.

Presenting the award, Adiukwu said the award was given to encourage the awardee and his team in their determined effort to combat violent crimes in the State especially kidnapping menace.


Adiukwu further said that the award would also help to consolidate the existing relationship between the NUJ in the state and the command.

“This award given to you today is our little way of encouraging you and your men, and by extention the Imo State Police Command in your determined and selfless effort in fighting crimes especially kidnapping menace.

“Remember to whom much is given, much is expected. So our expectation is that this award today will motivate you to do more in taming the tide of insecurity in Imo State and Nigeria in general.

“We pray that our good Lord will afford you the grace, wisdom as well as elevate you as you continue to give in your best for the safety and general well-being of Imo citizens. Amen. Congratulations.” Adikwu said.


Responding, Odeyeyiwa, former Division Police Officer, DPO, Atlas Cove, Lagos expressed immense for the honour which he dedicated to the Command and the Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma.

He attributed the successes recorded by him to the leadership dexterity and professional ingenuity of the CP as well as the invaluable support and commitment of his unit team.

“To say that I am happy for is honour is an understatement. I feel rather humbled and thankful to God for everything. Also, I deeply appreciate NUJ for this and I promise never to disappoint you.”

“I dedicate this award to my CP and my men here. It is for them that I am here and we have achieved the much we have done.” Odeyeyiwa said.

The event was witnessed by top officers of the unit and other members of NUJ including the South East Zonal Secretary, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Mrs. Doris Alex.
