NSCDC deploys 5,000 personnel for Kogi governorship election

Mr Abdullahi Muhammadu, Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has ordered the deployment of 5,000 personnel and sniffer dogs for the Kogi governorship election.

This is contained in a statement by the NSCDC spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Okeh, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

The statement said this was in line with the NSCDC mandate of providing security before, during and after elections.

It said the NSCDC also had the mandate to monitor activities of political parties as well as political actors through surveillance and intelligence gathering.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Kogi governorship election has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The statement assured that robust measures had been put in place to guarantee the security of lives and property.

It quoted the NSCDC boss as charging politicians to play by the rules and not to take the law into their hands.

He advised parents and guardians to caution their wards not to involve themselves in any form of electoral violence, saying that anyone caught fomenting trouble would be dealt with according to the law.
