NSCDC arrests man with four stolen motorcycles in Osun

Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspected serial motorcycle thief, Wahab Saburi, after three years of operating in the state.

The 27-year-old suspect, who is from Obada Compound in Ede, Osun State, was arrested on May 11, 2024, at the Oke-Ola area, Ede, by NSCDC personnel.

Spokesperson for the command, Kehinde Adeleke, in a statement yesterday, said Saburi confessed that he started stealing motorcycles about three years ago, and that on the day he was arrested, he had stolen a motorcycle parked in front of an apartment at Oke-Ola, Ede.


Saburi reportedly explained how he used a special key to unlock motorcycles before riding them away. Thereafter, he would sell the stolen bikes to buyers at N40,000.

The suspect was said to have confessed that he hadan accomplice at a popular market in Ede, who prepared sales agreement papers for him, and which he, thereafter, gave to those who buy the stolen motorcycles.

Adeleke said: “Discreet investigation revealed that he had four stolen motorcycles in his room which he allegedly stole at the Agip area, Ayo-Omoba, Obada, Ede, Osun State. The suspect was apprehended by officers of the NSCDC and investigation revealed that whenever he steals a motorcycle, he keeps it in his room at Obada Street, Ede, Osun State.

“The State Commandant assures members of the public that all accomplices to the crime would be made to face the full wrath of the law in due course. The corps shall continue to smoke out criminally minded people out of the state.”

In an interview, the suspect said: “It is true I stole three of the motorcycles. I bought the fourth one for N90,000. I stole the motorcycles so that I can sell them whenever I am hungry.”

Meanwhile, a non-teaching staff of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Mr Abdul-Azeez Abdullahi was attacked and stabbed during an examination at the institution.

Abdullahi was among invigilators deployed to the Red Block hall of the institution to oversee ongoing examinations.
At about 3:00 p.m., as the examination would commence, a man walked into the hall and started disrupting proceedings.

A source said: “The behaviour of the unknown man became unbearable. This eventually prompted an invigilator, Mr Abdul-Azeez Abdullahi, to ask him to leave the hall. It led to an altercation. The assailant broke one of the windows and stabbed the invigilator in different parts of his body, including his back, hand and head.

“After he stabbed the invigilator, he made his way out of the hall and escaped. Thereafter, Mr Abdullahi was given first aid treatment at the institution’s medical centre, before he was taken to Ore Ofe Hospital in Iree, Osun State.”
Confirming the incident, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Tope Abiola, said: “The culprit is not our student. We are aware of the incident and we are collaborating with the police to ensure that the culprit is identified and arrested. That the victim is recovering fast.”
