NRC recorded 32.08% passenger decline in 2023

Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has stated that the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) faced a significant decline in its passenger numbers in 2023, recording 2,182,388 passengers, a sharp 32.08 per cent decline compared to the 3,212,948 recorded the previous year.

NBS made this known through the recently released Rail Transportation Data (Q4 2023) report published on its website. The report showed that in the first quarter of 2023, the corporation transported 441,725 passengers on the Federal Government-controlled railway tracks nationwide, compared to 953,099 passengers in the corresponding quarter of 2022.

In the second quarter of 2023, NRC trains recorded 474,117 passengers, higher than the 422,393 recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

In the third quarter of 2023, they recorded 594,348 passengers, surpassing the 500,348 recorded in the third quarter of 2022. In the last quarter of 2023, the NBS report on rail transportation data showed that NRC moved 672,198 passengers, which is 664,910 fewer than the 1,337,108 passengers moved in the corresponding quarter of 2022.
