NNPP S’West zone kicks against change of party’s logo by Kwankwaso

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

The South-West chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has condemned the change of the party’s logo by its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

South-West leader of the NNPP, Adebisi Olopoeyan, while interacting with the media, yesterday, faulted the newly-adopted logo, saying that it was designed and chosen to suit the political movement of Kwankwasiyya and the people of Kano State.

Olopoeyan expressed dissatisfaction that the Kwankwaso and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party did not consult and consider the leaders and stakeholders of the party across the country before adopting the new logo.

He berated the former governor of Kano State, Kwankwaso, who is also the national leader of the NNPP, for parading himself like an authoritarian, who is scheming to hijack the party from the rightful owner.

He said: “We reject the logo here in Oyo State. They consulted nobody, and those who decided on the new logo chose what was best for the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the people of Kano.

“Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso doesn’t understand that he cannot be the sole decision maker of the party because he planted a governor in Kano State, which does not in any way signify he (Kwankwaso) solely owns NNPP.”

“It is not possible for any individual to be the Alpha and Omega of the national party. It is now obvious why Kwankwaso deliberately coerced the National Working Committee of the party to expel the Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman, Boniface Aniebonam.”

The South-West zone, which stated that though it was agreed the logo needed amendment because, after the election, we all concluded that what gave the NNPP a setback during the election across the country was the logo, except in Kano State, said: “We have not done enough sensitisation about the logo. So, Kwankwaso, NEC and NWC of the party shouldn’t have done the amendment logo in a rush. Everybody should have been carried along, including members of the party at the local council and ward levels.

“To us in Oyo State, the NEC and NWC of the party adopted the logo to further promote the Kwankwasiyya Movement because colour was chosen for Kwankwasiya and we all know that Kwankwaso’s preferred colour has always been red.

“They also didn’t consider that the logo change would affect the party immensely in some states where governorship and local council elections would be held. With no consultation and no sensitisation, they just made a unilateral decision. Even, the former logo is far better compared to the newly-adopted logo,” the zone said.
