Nigerian Idol S9: Stunning performances, unexpected twists on Father’s Day with lady Ruth’s eviction

Last Sunday night Live Show on the Nigerian Idol was a heart-warming one, as the Top 7 contestants, after delivering three stellar performances, took to the stage for a special themed show, dubbed, Fathers’ Day/Celebration of Love.

Each contestant was made to dedicate his or her song choice to the special theme; hence, made the night to be filled with emotion, powerful vocals, and stirring performances. The night was dedicated to honouring family members, and each performance was a heartfelt tribute.

Guest judge and performer Pheelz set the stage for an unforgettable evening in Episode 9 with a dazzling performance of his hit, Finesse, raising the bar for the contestants.

The week’s episode proved to be an emotional rollercoaster, with a remarkable 35 million votes shaping the destiny of the talented competitors. Adding to the sentiment, show host, Ikponmwosa Osakioduwa, better know IK Osakioduwa, celebrated the Day by surprising all the fathers in the studio with delicious cupcakes.

Departing from the norm, the episode heightened suspense with the announcement of the contestants who were saved one after the other to perform, building suspense and keeping everyone on the edge of their seats wondering who would be leaving the show at the end of the night. The first four contestants to take the stage were Lammy, Chioma, Maio, and Mira Clear.

With IK announcing Mira Clear as the next contestant making it through, tensions began to rise as Chima, Lady Ruth and Stevie remained in the hot seat awaiting their fates. After an ad break, IK brought Stevie, Lady Ruth, and Chima on stage to reveal their fates. Unfortunately, Lady Ruth was eliminated, leaving Stevie and Chima to join the Top 6 contestants.

As her parting gift, Lady Ruth turned the heat on with her sizzling performance of Jordin Sparks and Chris Browns’ hit duet, No Air. She was evicted after amassing the least number of votes amongst the Top 7 contestants.

Despite not winning the ultimate prize, the spotlight shone brightly on her as she was crowned winner of TECNO Jingle contest. The challenge required the contestants to create a jingle for the TECNO CAMON 30, and Lady Ruth’s creativity and musical prowess earned her the prize. She won N500,000 and a recording session.
