Nigerian Idol: Quest, Victory, Precious In Neck-to-neck Contest

As the ongoing music reality contest, Nigerian Idol gradually coasts to its grand finale where the eventual winner will cart home mouthwatering prizes, Quest, Victory Gbakara, and Precious Mac, the last three contestants are girding their loins for the ultimate performance.

The trio emerged finalists, after a memorable performance in last week’s Sunday Live Show themed “Viewer’s Choice.” Each performed two songs – an unplugged version of some major hits, and one picked by their fans. Before the stage performances, the guest judge, Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu, better known as Ric Hassani, opened the show with a medley of his hits, including Thunder Fire You and Amina, to a standing ovation from the judges and the audience, who were captivated by his performances.

His acts brought in Quest, the first contestant who performed I Don Go (IDG) by Asa. The performance received good commendations from the judges. Obi Asika complimented her saying, “You have the right voice,” while Simi in agreement said, “Incredible, it was wonderfully done,” just as D’Banj on his part, praised her for the exciting performance.

Quest also delighted the judges and audience with her second performance, Hello, by Adele. Lawyer turned reality music star, Victory Gbakara, afterward performed Wizkid’s Blessed and Pharrell Williams’ Happy. The performance had Hassani mesmerized. He retorted: “I am delighted with your performance on stage,” and the singer responded, “I was excited when l learned that song was chosen for me.”

Small but mighty with her voice, Precious Mac’s rendition of Ayra Starr’s Beggie Beggie earned her some accolades from Simi, who said: “She has a good voice and that was what brought her to the top three,” just as the other judges commended her performance and encouraged her to keep up the momentum and go on to realise her potential.

Precious Mac received a standing ovation from the judges and audience for her second performance Diamonds by Rihanna. And commending her, D’Banj said: “You made us feel you,” while Hassani said: “I am proud of you.” On his part, Asika said: “Her rendition was incredible,” just as Simi, added, “That was amazing; it was stunning.”

Meanwhile, Ose Daniel and Goodness bowed out with grace. As the Bigi-sponsored music reality competition gets tougher, the show continues tomorrow on Magic Showcase, GOtv Channel 11, and DStv Channel 197.
