Nigerian-Born Artist Shabooezy Dethrones Beyoncé on Billboard

Nigerian-American singer Collins Obinna Chibueze, popularly known as Shabooezy, has risen to the top of the US Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, displacing Beyoncé’s song.

His song ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ has dethroned ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ by Beyoncé, making it the first time two Black artists have consecutively held the number one position.

Shabooezy was born in Northern Virginia to Nigerian parents. His single ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ jumped from number 6 to number 1 on the chart in just two weeks.

This achievement comes right after Beyoncé’s historic run at the top of the chart with ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’, which made her the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Beyoncé held the number one position for 10 weeks before being replaced by Shabooezy.

Shabooezy’s music combines elements of hip hop, country, rock, and Americana.

In his earlier career, his music had more of a trap influence.

However, his later songs have evolved to have more of a folk-pop sound with acoustic guitar .

In an interview with ColorsStudios, he cited the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and Led Zeppelin as influences.

He also mentioned being inspired by Martin Scorsese films such as Taxi Driver.

In addition to his success on the charts, Shabooezy has also collaborated with Beyoncé on two tracks from her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter. The songs are, ‘Spaghettii’ and ‘Sweet Honey Buckiin’.
