Nigeria has resumed the prosecution of all Boko Haram detainees in Kainji, according to National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu.

Ribadu disclosed this during the two-day high-level African counter-terrorism summit in Abuja.

He stated that the country is also gathering intelligence on the activities of Boko Haram and the Islamic State-West Africa Province (ISWAP) to tackle the groups headlong.

Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov, stated that the United Nations’ success is dependent on African countries working together to provide African-based solutions.

Last year, the Federal Government said it resumed the trial of hardened Boko Haram terrorist suspects in Abuja’s Kainji Prosecution Project Phase IV.

Speaking at the opening of the court session in Abuja, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, said the first phase commenced in 2017.

“First, the day marks yet another step forward in the journey of ensuring the security and safety of Nigeria and Nigerians, a duty that is of utmost importance to Nigerians, as it is the primary duty of government to ensure the security and welfare come a long way to its citizens,” Fagbemi said.

“The first phase of the Kainji Prosecution Project commenced in October 2017 with remarkable achievements, where we recorded a total of 366 convictions, 896 others were discharged for want of sufficient evidence and 61 other cases adjourned for further hearing.”
