Nigeria ready for battles on all front, says NOC

Despite the enormity of the challenges the country is facing on many sporting fronts, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has assured that the nation would come out victorious in all the championships.

Nigeria, which is currently participating at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, is also preparing for the Ghana 2024 Africa Games and the Paris 2024 Olympics.

NOC Project Manager, Emma Nweri, told The Guardian that the committee in collaboration with the sports federations, is working hard to ensure that Nigerian athletes excel in all their competitions.

Apart from the AFCON, Nweri said the country’s athletes are also participating in both the Paris Olympics and Africa Games’ remaining qualifiers, including the Para Volleyball qualifiers holding in Lagos next week and the women basketball qualifiers in Belgium next month.

“We are also set for the Winter Youth Games in South Korea. For the African Games, Nigeria has successfully registered about 25 events, which are arm-wrestling, athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, cricket, cycling, rowing, football, handball, judo, Karate, mixed martial art, rugby, scrabble, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, weightlifting, and wrestling.

“We are making adequate preparations to ensure the country excels at these events. The Federal Government is ready, and the athletes are set for the challenges,” Nweri said.
