Nigeria lists gains as World Bank closes MinDiver project

World Bank

The Federal Government has said that the country has enhanced and strengthened capacity, fostered economic linkages and improved employment opportunities for the Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification (MinDiver), a World Bank-funded project.

The minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, disclosed this in Abuja, during the MinDiver Project Closure Workshop.

Represented by the Director-General, the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency, Dr AbdulRazak Garba, Alake said MinDiver was created from consistent interventions in the implementation of the mandate of the ministry and its agencies.

Some of the significant contributions of the project according to him, include elevating the capacity of the National Geochemical Survey Agency to manage data, successful launching of the Minerals Resources Decision Support System, extensive capacity development initiatives in the Ministry, including those for the Artisanal and Small Scale Mining (ASM) department and other departments across various agencies.

Alake expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its funding interventions towards strengthening institutional capacity and sustainable growth of the nation’s mining sector.
The project director, Salim Sallam, said the project’s success was a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision.

“We are confident that the strides made will continue to positively impact the mining sector and contribute to Nigeria’s economic diversification.”
