Niger: Police arrest NDLEA commander for death of married woman

Niger State Police Command has arrested a deputy zonal commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state, Mr. Femi Ajayi, over the death of a married woman in his room.


Ajayi was arrested by the men of the Tudun-wada Divisional Command, following a report to the divisional command by a medical doctor in one of the private hospitals in Minna.

The Guardian learnt that Ajayi is at the detention facility of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at  Dutsen-Kura headquarters of the State Police Command.

It was gathered that the deceased, identified as Christiana, left her matrimonial home in the Gbeganu area in  Minna to meet the deputy zonal commander where she met her untimely death.

A source said Christiana died in the room of the NDLEA officer along Bay clinic road in Tunga, Minna, before she was rushed to the private hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctor.

It was further gathered that the deceased woman,

married to one Mr. Peter, a resident of the Gbeganu area of Minna, was brought to the hospital half naked without her underwear.
The 57-year-old Narcotic officer was said to have been in a relationship with the deceased woman for two years before her sudden death.

Meanwhile, operatives of the homicide squad of the state Police Command on Friday, March 31,  2023, brought the deputy zonal commander to Minna Chief Magistrate Court, but he could not be arraigned as the Chief Magistrate was not on seat.

He was returned back to the SCIID detention facility and will be arraigned in court today, Monday, April 3, 2023.

The husband of the deceased woman, Mr. Peter could not be reached for comment at press time.
