Netflix, National Broadcasting Commission partner on local content

As part of efforts aimed at promoting indigenous content, the Netflix team, led by the Director, Public Policy, Shola Sani, recently paid a visit to the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) office in Abuja.

The primary aim was to discuss potential areas of collaboration with NBC, particularly, in the area of promotion, and publicity of local content on an international scale and to also, create awareness about Netflix’s mode of operation, as well as, request for involvement in policy making and legislation regarding the regulation of social media and the broadcast media airspace.


In his speech, NBC Director General, Charles Ebuebu, noted the visit marked an important milestone for the commission in her engagement with Netflix. He commended the team for its dedication to promoting Nigeria’s creativity, which has not only showcased the richness of the nation’s culture but has also played a significant role in fostering international recognition for Nigerian talent.

He added the commission is ready to explore avenues for partnership and collaboration that would further elevate our creative industry and provide greater opportunities for talented filmmakers and content creators.

The visit, which marked the beginning of a potential collaboration between both parties, will help promote content on a global scale, provide job creation within the local creative industry, and foster a conducive regulatory environment for digital platforms.
