The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has flayed the Federal Government over the growing economic hardship in the country, attributing the looting of food items from some warehouses in Abuja to frustrations and hunger across the country.

Spokesman of INC, Ezenobi Oyakemeagbegha, who expressed sadness over the prevailing economic challenges and insecurity in the country, said that such is an indication that ā€œthe nation is in a serious dilemma.ā€

The GuardianĀ gathered that the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) is allegedly planning a massive protest against the current plight and woes of Nigerians. It was learnt that the group, which champions agitations on issues surrounding the Ijaw ethnic nationality, is seriously pained by the ongoing sufferings of common Nigerians, while the leaders live in largesse.

The INC spokesman, in an interview withĀ The GuardianĀ yesterday, argued that the sad plight of Nigerians was sequel to wrong policies, ill advice, greed and fraud, decrying that the nationā€™s resources have been milked and looted by mindless leaders in the name of policies, while ordinary citizens suffer.

He said: ā€œFor people to begin to break and loot warehouses is a sign that we are in a serious predicament.Ā Ā People are not going for money this time; they are just keen on collecting what to eat. It means that the level of hunger and poverty in the land have gone very far.ā€

MEANWHILE, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has described reports of mass looting of warehouses and trucks carrying food items on the nationā€™s highways as warning signals of the looming anarchy and turmoil, which Nigeria faces.

Hoodlums broke into a storage facility in the Gwagwa area of Abuja, on Sunday, and looted stored food items.

Also, last Friday, in Dogarawa, a suburb of Zaria, in Kaduna State, some residents looted cartons of Spaghetti from a parked truck of BUA Company.

National Publicity Secretary, PRP, Muhammed Ishaq, in a statement, yesterday, said that drastic measures must be taken to address the serious cost of living facing the majority of citizens.

Describing the actions of the hoodlums as simply criminal and wrong, which need to be addressed squarely, Ishaq said that despite the hunger and hardship, Nigerians should not allow ā€œpoverty make us criminals to the extent that we loot what does not belong to us.ā€
