Lighthouse varsity names Imianvan pioneer VC

Imianvan

The Board of Trustees of the Lighthouse University, Evbuobanosa, Edo State, has appointed Prof Anthony Agboizebeta Imianvan as pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Speaking on his appointment, the Chancellor, Dr Felix Omobude, lauded him for his services to the Lighthouse Polytechnic in the past, and support towards the approval of the new university.

He assured the new vice chancellor of his support in realising the objectives set out to actualise the vision of the institution’s founders.


Omobude, subsequently called on all well-meaning individuals, groups, and the government to partner with the university in its quest to herald “a positive and permanent transformation to the world.”

Imianvan, a Professor of Computer Science with research interest in Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Programming, and Bio-Medical Computing at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) was Head of Department of Computer Science at the institution between 2017 and 2018.

With over 70 publications in local and foreign journals, Imianvan has served as an external examiner for post-graduate degree programmes across different universities.

He has been an Assessor to various institutions on the appointment of Professors of Computer Science. He has also served as chairman or member of adhoc accreditation panels set up by the National University Commission (NUC) to evaluate programmes of different schools seeking accreditation.

Imianvan, who earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Computer Science from the University of Benin, with a PhD from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), is a member of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria; the Nigeria Computer Society; the Association of Computing Machinery, United States; and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA.

In approving his appointment, the board took into consideration, Imianvan’s record of service as an administrator and academic of many years, especially his research interest in AI and other aspects of computing that are set to shape the future of humanity.
