Lawyer evicts church over illegal possession of property

A Lagos-based lawyer, Chief Michael Agbamuche, who is the son of the former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the late Michael Ashikodi Agbamuche (SAN), has asked Our Saviour Anglican Church, Surulere, to quit from his property for being on it illegally.

Recall that the lawyer had earlier accused the church of violating the Lagos State land grabbing law by occupying his bequeathed property illegally without offering any consideration.

The lawyer in a letter to the officiating priest, Reverend Abiodun Oderinde titled “Eviction notice in obedience to Lagos State Government public notice dated January 21, 2024”, said the church presence on number 77 Ademola street is illegal and must leave within 30 days.

“I am enjoined to evict you and your church within 30 days and by reason of the law, I am obliged to give you notice to leave the premises completely by March 1, 2024 or remain there at your own risk.”

“As the owner, I am enjoined to evict you, which I am proceeding to do beginning with this letter. Please supply the name and address of your solicitors to whom court processes would be served,” he stated.

He added that his action is also in line with the directive of the Lagos State Government that no religious activities should be conducted within residential areas.
