Lateef Jakande Academy launches Eko Law App to deepen understanding of state laws

• Say only 30% of residents have access to legal information
• Pilgrims pray for Lagos State, appreciate Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, yesterday, unveiled the Eko Law App to help the over 20 million residents have a better understanding of the state laws, stating that the App is important because, even though about 70 per cent of residents have experienced legal problems, only about 30 per cent had access to legal information.

Team Lead, Capstone Team Ace, Usman Adeniji, who spoke on behalf of the fellows of the Academy during a media briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, said that the Eko Law App intends to improve legal literacy levels in Lagos State by consolidating all relevant laws into a user-friendly app and simplify in English and translate them into Yoruba and then pidgin.

Adeniji said that many Lagos residents lacked access to clear and understandable legal information, leading to legal problems and disputes.

Meanwhile, Lagos State pilgrims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have acknowledged the gestures of the state leadership with fervent prayers in the Holy Land.

This comes as the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, broke the news that the promises made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Kadri Hamzat, before their departure from Lagos had all been fulfilled.

Layode, who is also the Lagos State Amir-ul-Hajj for the 2024 Hajj exercise, stated this while addressing the pilgrims on his arrival in Makkah.

He told the pilgrims that the promises made by the governor to pay for their sacrificial rams, monetisation of their Ihram clothes, as well as ziyyarah (visitation) to historical sites in both Makkah and Madinah, had been catered for.

The commissioner added that the governor also gave each of them another 100 Saudi Riyals as pocket money for their stay in Muna and Arafah in addition to the $100 shortfall in the Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) for pilgrims on the third and fourth batches who are yet to collect theirs.

The Amiru-ul-Hajj, however, appealed to the pilgrims to comply with the rules and regulations spread out by the Saudi authorities in respect of this year’s hajj rituals.
