Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), yesterday, came to the aid of a middle-age woman, who gave birth to a baby boy at the Onipanu Bus Stop, Lagos.

The agency said it received a call at about 9:00 a.m. from the neighbourhood and bystanders, in respect of a heavily pregnant woman who unexpectedly went into labour while waiting to board a bus.

According to the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, paramedics from the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRT) and the agency moved in, in collaboration with some market women at the bus stop. They provided a makeshift shelter and ensured safe delivery of the baby and the well being of the mother.

Oke-Osanyintolu announced that the woman was successfully delivered of a bouncing baby boy amid jubilation.

“The agency’s officials, after stabilising the mother and the newborn infant, quickly transported them to the nearest hospital for further medical care and attention. The delivery was free and both the woman and the baby are in good condition. She has been reunited with her family,” he added.
