Land grab: Farm operator alleges injustice, assault, police deny involvement

Egbetokun

The manager of Ola Poultry Farms in the Ikotun area of Lagos, Bola Ola, has accused officers of Zone 2 Onikan police station of providing cover for land grabbers to invade his firm, located at 145, Abaranje Road, Ikotun, Lagos.

Ola alleged that the land grabbers numbering over 15, and supported by four uniformed police officers, barged into his poultry on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, brutalised him, and bundled him into their Hilux vehicle.

Ola alleged that he was first taken to Area M, Idimu police station, and later to Blue Sky Hospital, when they realised he was in a coma.

Thereafter, they drove him to Zone 2, at Onikan, where he was asked to meet the Zonal Criminal Investigation Intelligence Department (ZCIID).

At the station, he alleged that officers gave a one-sided judgment because he couldn’t talk, on account of his health condition.

He said: “The one-sided judgment was that the complainant can occupy our land while we steered clear. And this gave them (Omo-onile) the guts to be doing all sorts of things on the land, including clearing the bush and attempting to do demarcation and foundation on our land, something the court has not adjudicated on.

“In the face of this injustice and malicious damage to life and property, I am calling on concerned authorities to right the wrongs of these land grabbers and their sponsors, and bring them to book, so that this can serve as a deterrent to others.

“In addition, Nigerians alike should lend their voices against this act of barbaric injustice and stand by the rule of law to create a liveable society for humanity.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer for Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, Superintendent of Police, Ayuba Tunni Umma, said: “I can’t confirm the incident. I don’t know the department involved.”
