Lagos uncovers another illegal settlement under Osbourne bridge

The Lagos State government has uncovered another illegal settlement under the Osborne bridge, Ikoyi.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Thursday on X.

The Commissioner added that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) commenced immediate clearance operation.

On Wednesday, the Lagos State government uncovered a network of makeshift apartments under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi where tenants reportedly pay N250,000 annually for a room.


According to Wahab, a total of 86 partitioned rooms, ranging in size from 10×10 to 12×10, were found under the bridge.

He said a container used for different illegal activities was also discovered under the Dolphin Estate bridge.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s special adviser, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, said 23 individuals were arrested during the eviction process.

Rotimi-Akodu said the suspects created their illegal settlement under the bridge, thereby exposing the critical infrastructure to impending destruction.
