Lagos State Government has reiterated its efforts to curb Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through sensitisation and training of community leaders, social workers and other stakeholders.
It said that marriage registrars at the 57 local councils and local council development areas (LCDA) in Lagos State and students union leaders in all the tertiary institutions had also been trained on how to respond to cases of GBV.
This was disclosed at a one-day high level policy engagement on multispectral action plan on ending violence against women and girls organised by Women Advocates Research and Documentation (WARDC) on Monday.
Head, Domestic Violence Unit, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Lagos State, Olorunfemi Oluwatoyin, representing the commissioner of the ministry, noted that prompt responses are given to the daily reports the ministry receives on GV and the shelter for survivors is at the verge of completion.
Also, Clinical psychologist and Senior Researcher, Centre for Gender and Development Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Toyin Ilesanmi, urged multi-sectoral approach in ending violence against people in the society.
She said the method would allow different segments of the society to be incorporated in tackling issues of violence.
