Lagos family demands prosecution of palace invaders

The Secretary, Olofin Of Isheri Royal Family of Lagos, Prince Akintunde Kudoro Fagunwa has called for the intervention of the state government to ensure perpetrators of the April 11 2023 attack on the palace are brought to book.

Recall that on the fateful day, some persons claiming to be sheriffs were implementing a Court of Appeal judgment over a parcel of land measuring 151.656 hectares, when hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons, appeared, unleashing mayhem within the palace of the Isheri monarch, destroying properties and injuring some people in the process.

But in an exclusive chat with The Guardian, yesterday, Fagunwa alleged it was a case of attempted murder. “They wanted to burn the palace if not for the police. Government should investigate and bring the culprits to book. We went to court and won the case. This is an obstruction of the court order. We really appreciate the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa for his effort in safeguarding the palace.”

During his visit to the palace, Owohunwa called for calm, assuring that the police would bring perpetrators of the unrest to book.

He stated: “We should learn to submit to judicial process instead of threatening peace. The police will not tolerate unrest. Our concern is that peace must be maintained.”

He added that the mandate of the police is to ensure that peace is restored at any cost.

According to him: “Just as the police responded promptly, we will remain on the ground to ensure the safety of lives and property, while the investigation is initiated and whoever is involved in the threats and damages would be identified and brought to justice. Since there is a breach, I’ve already ordered an investigation.

“Nobody is above the law. You should pursue grievances through the ambit of the law. I urge the residents of the community to believe the police have the capacity to enforce the law,” he advised.
