Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway: Obong requests simultaneous works from both ends

• Bishop Condemns Atiku, Obi

The Obong of Calabar Executive Forum, which is an advisory and executive arm of the Palace of the Obong of Calabar, has called on the Federal Government to start the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway simultaneously from the Lagos and Calabar axes.

They said this will abridge the project delivery time and reduce risks associated with inflation.
At a press briefing in the palace of Obong of Calabar, on Friday, the OCEF advised the FG to engage as many competent engineers and road construction contractors for the project.

They insisted that “If the project commences from the Lagos and Calabar axes simultaneously, with close supervision and monitoring by the minister of works and his team, the project would be delivered during the Tinubu administration.

They commended Tinubu administration, describing the project as single largest ever infrastructure development in Nigeria.

The Chairman of the OCEF, Gershom Henshaw, said the coastal highway is a strategic national infrastructure that will transform the economic landscape of the nine states which the road project will traverse.

They used the opportunity to remind Tinubu of his election campaign promise of dredging the Calabar Channel to allow the berthing of bigger vessels and the completion of the Adiabo Bridge started by the late General Sani Abacha’s government to connect the state with Akwa Ibom State, which had been abandoned despite it has reached over 70 per cent.

Similarly, he reminded government about the East-West Road, saying it will massively impact South-South and Southeastern states.

Meanwhile, Secretary General, Northern Pentecostal Bishops, Bishop Jonas Katung, has condemned former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi over their stand against the Lagos-Calabar highway project.

Katung commended Tinubu for initiating Lagos- Calabar coastal highway project, saying when completed it would boost the tourism sector of the economy.

He added that the project when fully completed would give Tinubu a high score in the area of infrastructural development, saying reason Atiku Abubakar and Obi are kicking against the project.
