• 105, 000 low income earners enroll for health insurance
Kwara State Government has dismissed insinuations that it had diverted the N2.1 billion received recently from the Federal Government. It also denied receiving N3 billion, stressing that it had only received its share of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (NLNG) dividend recently distributed to all tiers of government.
Making the clarification in statement by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed dismissed as untrue claims made by the state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that the state government had diverted the funds. According to him, the state government had neither received a bail out from the Federal Government nor the N3b claimed by the opposition party.
Meanwhile, Governor Ahmed has disclosed that over 105, 000 low-income people had enrolled for the State Community Health Insurance programme since inception in 2007.
The governor, who was represented at the conference held at the State Health Insurance Research and Advocacy conference for stakeholders held in Ilorin by his deputy, Elder Peter Kishira, said that over 600,000 clinical patients’ visits had been made since the beginning of the programme.
Ahmed said that the State aimed at capturing over 1 million people in the rural areas with the signing of an MOU in February 2013 to implement community health insurance scheme.
In another development, the controversy surrounding the temporary relocation of an agency of state government to the temporary site of the University of Ilorin has been resolved.
At a meeting with management of the University led by its Vice Chancellor, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, Kwara State delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ishola Gold, explained that the relocation of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service to the University’s temporary site was a temporary measure expected to last not more than three months.
