Kukah to deliver UNICAL convocation lecture

Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Mathew Hassan Kukah, will tomorrow, deliver the 36th Convocation Lecture of the University of Calabar, with the topic: ‘Harmonising Diversity for National Development.’

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Obi, disclosed this at a press conference to announce activities lined up for the 36th convocation ceremony of the university, slated for March 22.

She announced that the school would be graduating a total of 8,415 first degree, while 754 others would be awarded master’s degrees in various disciplines, and 438 others would be conferred with Doctor of Philosophy.

The vice-chancellor said out of this number, 32 students would graduate with first class, the highest in the history of the 49-year-old university.

Obi attributed this to the improved reading culture and conducive study environment of the university. She enumerated other activities lined up for the ceremony including a research fair and exhibition slated for March 19 and 20, a convocation command performance and a cocktail in honour of the university chancellor and other dignitaries on the same day.
