Kogi guber: ADC candidate promises to pay WAEC fees, tame violence

Leke Abejide

Standard-bearer of African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has promised to pay West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for students in the five local councils in Kogi Central this year.

Abejide made the promise in Okene, at the weekend during the harmonisation meeting with various groups in the zone mobilising for the actualisation of his governorship ambition.

“I will pay WAEC fees for all students in Kogi Central by October this year. This intervention will not exclude anyone, regardless of the recipient’s political inclination. When we assume office, we will continue to pay for all Kogi students.

“Also, widows will have cause to smile. We assure you in Kogi Central that we will not disappoint you. You will not work in vain. I have a pedigree in rewarding hard work, loyalty and commitment.”

Abejide, a second term member of the green chamber, had been paying WAEC fees for students in Yagba, his federal constituency, for the fifth year running. Last year, the gesture was extended to Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.

The ADC candidate also assured the electorate that promoters of political violence would be tamed before, during and after the November polls.

He said: “November election will be peaceful in Kogi. If we notice any clandestine, dangerous movement, we will engage security agencies to tame it. Nobody can intimidate anyone. We own Kogi together. In this election, we will not succumb to thuggery. Whoever is involved in violence will be tamed. Whoever dares to engage in political violence will pay dearly for it. I don’t believe in violence and will neither support nor encourage it.

“If I am popular, I should win; if not, I lose. There will be no problem in this election. All I need from you is unity of purpose and dedication.”

Abejide’s running mate, Dr. Idris Omede, assured the supporters that Abejide is a man of his words, which is demonstrated in his federal constituency.

“He believes in equity, a character most people preach but have been unable to demonstrate. You are the deciders, and we believe you know what is good for you and your families. Give us your votes; make us your servants for a new Kogi. With this crop of leaders from Kogi Central, who believe in Kogi Project and justice, we are confident of victory at the polls,” he said.
