Kebbi pays N20b for retirement benefits in 6 Years

Bagudu
Kebbi State Government says it has spent over N20b for the payment of gratuities of retired civil servants in the state.

Briefing journalists yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mamudu Muhammad Warra, who said the payment was from 2015 till date, added that the funds were released to bring succor to the civil servants after their retirements.

He explained that the current administration inherited liability of N4, 376,242,726.93, which was not only liquidated, but an additional sum was provided, which beefed it up to N20, 052,000,000.00, for payment of retirement benefits.

Warra recalled that the latest of such approvals granted by the Governor was N3b which will significantly offset the retirement benefits of all those who retired up to 2018.

“Specifically, out of a total number of 1,098 retirees, 958 retirees whose retirement benefits range from N5m and below will be paid 100 per cent, this indicates that, at the end of the exercise, the state government will only be left with the burden of those who retired from 2019 upward,” he added.

Warra emphasised that the state government was also determined to continue the monthly savings that will seek to address new retirees.
