The Kano State government has begun distribution of presidential palliatives to vulnerable households across the state’s 44 council areas.

The President conveyed the goods through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) It encompassed essentials such as maize, millet, sorghum and garri.

At the occasion in Kano, NEMA’s Director-General, Zubaida Umar, emphasised that the gesture aligned with the President’s commitment to mitigating the effects of the current economic downturn.

Within this allocation, Kano has been apportioned 969 metric tons of maize, 1,320 metric tonnes of sorghum and 417 metric tons of millet, to be equally distributed among the councils.
A fraction of the provisions, equivalent to twenty per cent, is earmarked for religious institutions, whereas three per cent would be allocated to boarding schools.

Umar also issued a caution regarding an impending flood this year, referencing the Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook.

In another development, Governor Dapo Abiodun has extended the sale of subsidised rice to pensioners in Ogun State.

The governor, who made the announcement through the Head of Service (HoS), Kehinde Onasanya, during monitoring of the sale of discounted rice to members of the Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN) in Abeokuta yesterday, Abeokuta, explained that since the economic situation in the country cuts across all ages, his administration decided to extend the exercise to retired workers.

While urging the pensioners to take advantage of the gesture, the government re-echoed the priority the governor accords to the welfare of the people.
“The Dapo Abiodun-led administration is pensioners’ friendly and seriously concerned about their welfare,” the HOS said.

He said bringing the rice to the doorsteps of pensioners was to eliminate any hardship they might likely face in purchasing the commodity.
Abiodun urged them to avail the opportunity to buy according to their levels while in service.

State Chairman of LOGPAN, Pastor Benedict Ademoye, described the gesture as unprecedented, adding that it would alleviate the hardship of pensioners at these trying times.
