CONTRARY to reports yesterday that the convoy in which the Governor of Ogun State Senator Ibikunle Amosun was traveling was shot at by presumed assassins, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Yusuf Olaniyonu told reporters  yesterday that it was really an accidental discharge.

“What happened was what can be referred to as an accidental discharge. The person who fired the gun did not actually aim at anybody.” 

   He explained that the incident had actually been exaggerated.

  Also when contacted, the head of the vigilante group,  Mr. Soji Guzalo told reporters on phone: “I do not know where the press got their information from, we are still investigating the unfortunate incident”.

  Spokesman of Ogun State Police Command, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)  told The Guardian on phone: “We are not aware of the incident. Nobody as I am speaking to you has reported the incident to us, so we are not aware of it”.

   Although nobody was injured in the incident, The Guardian learnt that  the governor’s security aides were said to have arrested the vigilante man who fired the gun and seized his rifle, but was shortly after, released.

  The vigilante men were employed by the government to complement the efforts of the police in combating crime in the state.

   It had been reported that  Governor Amosun and members of the State Executive Council including commissioners and senior special assistants on Tuesday escaped death by the whiskers as a vigilante member opened fire on his convoy in Agbado, Ifo Local Council Area of the state.

   The convoy which included members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was on the re-election campaign rally in the local government.

   The Guardian  learnt that the vigilante memberopened fire on the convoy even when there was no argument between him and any other person.

The bullet hit a white Toyota Coaster bus with registration number Ogun 12 OGGH conveying the commissioners and aides who were a few distance away from that of the governor.

   The source  had  further said that the some of the

commissioners who were fast asleep in the bus because it was about 10p.m.  were confused as many of them scampered for safety.
