Insecurity: Tinubu must be accountable for protection of lives, property, Northern Coalition insists

Coalition of Northern Civil Society Organizations has insisted that President Bola Tinubu should be ready to account for security of lives and property in the country.

Besides, the Coalition challenged the Federal Government to set up Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of not more than six months for all the heads of security agencies for accountability.

The groups advisory came on the wake of the recent killings of over 170 innocent Nigerians in some villages in Plateau state and the Friday murder of about 11 persons in Southern Kaduna state.

Rising from their emergency meeting held in Kano on Saturday, the civil groups in the 19 Northern states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also express worry over the governorship election appeals of Kano, Zamfara and Plateau states, as well as the state of nation’s economy.

Addressing journalists in Kano on the communique signed by 20 representatives of the Coalition, the convener of the meeting, Ibrahim Waiya, said the conference is concerned about the level at which Nigeria is sliding into insecurity.

The groups urged the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to coordinate the synergy between the Service Chiefs for optimal level with a bid to combating killings of innocent people in the country.

On the just concluded election, Waiya said Nigeria’s democracy is gradually sliding into a situation where the will of the people at the poll is no longer matters except the wishes of the court.

The group urged the president not to allow his government to be used in the manipulative scheme of interfering with judicial processes in courts involving cases of election opposition states, to truncate the Nigerian democracy.

“The Conference is appealing to the Judicial Service Commission to take swift action to thoroughly investigate the root causes of the conflicting judgments and implement measures to ensure the judicial system.

“That, the president should with immediate effect convey a national economic summit for citizens to identify, deliberate and proffer solutions to the Nigerian economic situation,” Waiya said.
