INEC issues Certificate of Return to Ondo lawmakers-elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, issued Certificates of Return, to the newly elected members of the Ondo State House of Assembly.


According to the Administrative Secretary of INEC in the state, Mr. Oyetola Oyelami, the lawmakers-elect must utilise the trust repose on them at the polls by giving to adequate representation of their constituencies.

On his part, Governor Olurotimi Akeredolu, who was represented by Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye, urged the lawmakers-elect to effectively design legislation that will better the lots of the people.

He said: “It’s being a long time of campaign. You have emerged as our elected representatives. The people of Ondo State expect you to work for them and do your job properly.”

Majority Leader of the Ondo Assembly, Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi, said the 10th Assembly would witness peace.

A PDP lawmaker-elect, Olajide Johnson, disclosed he was not elected as a minority lawmaker to be an enemy of the governor but to join hands with others towards the development of the state.

“I will not disappoint my people. Being a minority is not a barrier. I am not going to be an enemy of the governor.”

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won 22 seats of the 26 seat and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won four seats.

Out of the 26 newly elected members of the state House of Assembly, three women, who include, Witherspoon Atinuke (Owo II) Fayemi Annah (Ilaje II) and Ogunlowo Oluwatosin (Idanre) were presented Certificates of Return.
