AS countdown on the March 28 and April 11 polls rages, some candidates of the political parties in Imo State, angling for the various positions, on Saturday night, pledged their commitment to offer their best through their articulated programmes, if elected into office. They addressed Imo State -based Medical Doctors, under the platform, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
Those who addressed the professional doctors included the Deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ike Ibe, representing the Governorship candidate, Capt. Emma Iheanacho; the state Labour Party (LP), governor candidate, Ngozi Olehi, a Lawyer; the governorship candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and Emma Nzenwa, an Engineer; and the Accord party candidate for Ezinihitte /Ahiazu Mbaise Federal constituency, Dr. Kelechi Osuagwu, a Gynaecologist.
Speaking, before the address, the Imo State chairman of the NMA, Dr. Hycinth Emele, said the essence of the event was to enable the candidates explain to the doctors in the state, what programmes and policies they would pursue and prosecute to the advantage of the state if elected into various offices in the state.
In his contribution, Ibe, who had listed his contributions years back by bringing in more than 60 containers medical equipment from abroad, years back to boost health sector, regretted that the output of the students in the educational system, since the introduction of the free education by the All Progressives Congress (APC), government in the state, had been abysmal performance, bringing to the rating from the 9th some years ago to 72nd position.
“Since three years ago, the rating in educational performance in Imo state has been from the 9th position to 64, to 72nd, at the bottom.” Ibe stated.
He also regrettably alleged that the present government had mortgaged the future of the state by 25 years by obtaining a loan of about N300 billion, stressing that appointment of positions were been done without due process.
According to him, the enthronement of APGA government would redress issues, including sound economy, employment and others, stressing that he was a better pair to Iheanacho, a former Minister of Interior.
Olehi, a member of the Common wealth Lawyers Association, in his, said the rule of law would form paramount position in his regime if elected, adding that the health sector would receive a boost under his watch.
He regretted that due to problems in the state’s judicial system, pending cases were more than 77,000.
Nzenwa, in his own speech, said he would replicate what the late Sam Mbakwe administration achieved in the old Imo state, more than 30 years ago, stressing that order and basic needs of life would be put in place, if given the mandate.
Osuagwu, in his, urged his colleagues to give support to their members seeking for elective offices in the country, promising to represent his federal constituency effectively if given the chance.
