Suspected herdsmen have ambushed and killed two police operatives attached to Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) operatives who were deployed into a forest in Delta to rescue about four kidnap victims.

A source hinted nine operatives were killed. But a source at IRT noted that two officers were killed.

According to a reliable source in Delta State Police Command, the deceased officers and several others were deployed into a forest at Bentsiga Buplesi community in the Ugheli area on Monday when they ran into an ambush.

“They were more than nine that went for that rescue operation on Monday, and only nine bodies were recovered on Tuesday.

“One of the officers who ran out with bullet wounds said that the herdsmen were so many and heavily armed. They shot and killed many of us.

“We are praying for the safe return of the others.”
