Gunmen kill village head, policemen, others in Nasarawa

Gunmen, in a fresh midnight attack, have slaughtered the leader of Katakpa community of Toto Local Council of Nasarawa State, Abubakar Ahmadu, two policemen and 11 others.

  
The community, recently, came under attack that claimed a police station and two policemen on duty.  Confirming the bloody incident, a resident, Ibrahim Shuaibu, said the gunmen launched the attack about 2.00am on Monday, and razed some houses as well.
  
Chairman of Toto council, Abdullahi Tashas, also confirmed the attack, adding that he had yet to get details of the casualties. Also, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, had yet to issue a statement on the matter.

SECURITY operatives in Kaduna have foiled a kidnap attempt by terrorists in the state and recovered arms and ammunition. Also, Katsina State Police Command, in collaboration with the military, rescued 10 kidnap victims between Kukar Babangida and Yan Gayya Feeder Road in the state.
  
Commissioner of Police (CP), Audu Ali, however, declared that bandits would no longer have any breathing space under his watch. Police Public relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mansir Mansir, stated, yesterday: “The kidnap attempt, which occurred about 0730 hours on February 25, 2024 had the bandits in large numbers blocked the Tumburku/Galadimawa road and indiscriminately shot in the air, in an attempt to kidnap motorists.

  
“The daunting situation drew the attention of the police, which led to a fierce gun duel and the bandits succumbed to the operatives’ superior tactics and retreated into the nearby bush with many having bullet wounds.”
  
Mansir explained that the police subsequently combed the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, five rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone and two Bajaj motorcycles.”
  
The Katsina incident was Sunday about 10.40am, when a joint patrol team was on routine patrol along the feeder road came under serious fire by bandits armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles.
  
Yesterday, the PPRO, Abubakar Aliyu, noted that the patrol team promptly returned fire and succeeded in foiling the attack, thereby rescuing the 10 victims. 
  
The statement added that the CP, Aliyu Musa, commended the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry, urging the good people of the state to continue to support the command and other security agencies in the state with timely information for swift action against all forms of crime in the state.
