Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, yesterday, attacked Dabna community in Hong Council of Adamawa State, killing three persons, razing houses, shops and carting away food items.
An eyewitness account said the attackers, who came on two motorcycles in the wee hours of the day, shot sporadically on arriving the settlement.
Local vigilantes were said to have shot one of the gunmen, who was eventually whisked carried away by his colleagues. Reacting to the early morning attack, the Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, condemned the raid, describing it as unfortunate. He, subsequently, confirmed three deaths.
“The unknown gunmen attacked the sleeping community with sporadic shootings before killing three residents,” the Babatola said. According to a statement by the spokesperson, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, the CP has given men of the command a marching order to arrest the assailants.
The force warned that attacks on innocent citizens would not be tolerated under whatsoever guise, reiterating its commitment to sanctity of life. It restated that unwarranted attitude would be strictly treated in accordance with extant laws.
The police boss avowed the command’s stance for protection of life and property, adding that it is vital to work with other sister security agencies in protecting the fundamental rights of the people.
ALSO yesterday, no fewer than 10 persons were murdered at Kwesati village in Ussa Council of Taraba state by suspected herdsmen. Confirming the development, the council caretaker committee chairman, Abershi Musa, said attackers invaded the community in the early hours of yesterday.
The onslaught came barely two days after scores were slaughtered in Garin Baka village of Ardo-Kola Council by unknown gunmen. Expressing shock over the renewed attack, Governor Darius Ishaku, according to the chairman, had directed security operatives to go after the killers.
The governor, he added, had vowed not to allow criminal elements take laws into their hands, by killing innocent souls. While calling on the youths and council to remain calm, the state government, Musa further said, is leaving no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Usman, who also confirmed the attack, could not ascertain the casualties, stating: “ I have not been updated.”
He, however, promised to get back to The Guardian as soon as he gets briefed by the Divisional Officer (DPO) in Lisam, the administrative headquarters of Ussa.
