Group urges Tinubu, IGP others to intervene over EFCC, Yahaya Bello

A coalitions of Civil Society for Good Governance (CCSGG) in collaboration with Kogi Conscience Liberation Movement (KCLM) have called on the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and others agencies to expedite action in the war against corruption in the country.

The coalitions at the press conference in Abuja, highlighted that this have become necessary as Nigerians and Kogi state citizens are seemingly becoming restless over the macabre dance in ongoing processes of long awaited prosecution of its immediate past Governor of Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello for an alleged 80.2bn naira fraud.

In his address, national coordinator of the coalitions of Civil Society for Good Governance (CCSGG) Comrade Okpanachi Jacob, said in light of this it is important that our civil populace be kept in remind of the threat to ouu statehood corruption will impede out social-economic and political progress in the country.

Jacob, also acknowledge this will also reduce the confidence of intending foreign directs investors on our system while, on the hand enhance the confidence of official that intends to engage in corrupt practices as there no action for deterrence.

He said,”we recalled that Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) on Tuesday 23rd April 2024 serve former Governor, his charges through his counsel, Abdulwahab Muhammed, (SAN) this is over 2 months and it seems Nigerians are getting impatient and tired from wrong signals of Government directions in fights against corruption as can be viewed in Kogi state case study, he said.”

He further said, “with great magnitude of spillover from corruption on the economy of Kogi state, poverty level have become very high which is inversely or directly correlated with crime rate, civil servants are already reduced to beggars due to low income resulting from 8 years of accumulated salary shortfall, these are visible results of unchecked corruption.”

On his part, the national coordinator, Kogi Conscience Liberation Movement (KCLM) Comrade Peter Onuwa, said we recommended that the efforts of the EFCC over this issues is not enough and we urged them to do more as Nigerians are loosing hope in this fight against corruption.

He, “added that citizens are already filled with doubt on what is actually going on with issues of EFCC and Kogi state for governor Yahaya Bello, he said.”

“In conclusion, we called on the president and Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to immediately ensured that the right things are being done within the shortest period time, as pleaded by Kogi state citizens.”
