A group under the aegis of League of Voters in Nigeria (LVN) has described the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) presidential candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and that of the All Progressives Congress,(APC) Gen. Mohammad Buhari’s peaceful conduct after the declaration of the results as most encouraging that should be emulated by other African countries.

The National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Bem Kokoiwen said in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, that this rare courage and humility exhibited by Jonathan who lost at the polls has won him a great honour and gone a long way in calming down the tension that was generated during the collation and declaration of election results.

“Prior to the official release of the presidential election results by INEC, Jonathan who was the PDP candidate personally called to congratulate the President -elect, Buhari and later made a nationwide broadcast, urging Nigerians to be peaceful and accept the outcome of the elections in good faith.”

While commending Buhari for his resilience he also thanked millions of voters that defied the resins and sun to ensure that they voted for candidates of their choice.

According to Kokoiwen, the Prof. Attahiru Jega- led INEC had conducted one of the most transparent and credible polls since the history of the country and expressed the hope that the commission will improve on its performances during the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections slated for April 11.

According to the national coordinator, electorates promised to remain resolute and determined in their quest to elect only credible leaders who understand the times we live in and those who will treat us fairly and will be accountable to the people.
He also challenged leaders to learn from the March 2015 political development that power is transient and a public trust that can be given to anybody irrespective of age, tribe, religion or circumstance of birth.
