The Renewed Hope Agenda Support Group, a backing body for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, has expressed strong support for Mele Kyari, the CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). The group asserts that Kyari’s efforts towards the operationalisation of refineries align perfectly with the President’s agenda for the downstream sector.

This endorsement comes in response to a recent press conference held by a coalition of ethnic nationality youth leaders in Nigeria, who called for Kyari’s immediate dismissal. They accused him of sabotaging the repair of indigenous refineries and obstructing the commencement of the Dangote refinery.

In a statement released by Segun Emmanuel, the Renewed Hope Agenda Support Group praised Kyari for introducing significant reforms and working tirelessly to ensure energy security in the downstream sector. The group highlighted Kyari’s milestones in advancing Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, particularly through his Transparency, Accountability, Productivity, and Efficiency (TAPE) programme.

“We wish to commend Mele Kyari, CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), for his efforts towards refinery takeoff which is in line with the President’s agenda for the downstream sector. Those calling for his sack are mere mischief-makers, trying to distract President Tinubu from the good work he is doing,” the statement read.

The group pointed to Kyari’s recent remarks at the Strategic Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG) Leadership Summit held at the Petroleum Technology Trust Fund (PTDF) auditorium in Abuja. Kyari outlined his vision for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, including monetising the country’s vast 203 trillion cubic feet of gas resources, increasing crude oil production to 3 million barrels per day, and raising domestic refining capacity to over 1 million barrels per day.

“He has introduced reforms and is working night and day to ensure energy security in the downstream sector. We urge him to ignore detractors and concentrate on performing his role for the betterment of the country,” the statement concluded.
