Social Welfare Integrated Programme Initiative (SWIPI) has concluded arrangement to partner Lagos State government to bridge social and infrastructure gaps prevalent in the care and management of vulnerable people in the state.
SWIPI Chairman, Dr. Kolawole Ajayi, in a briefing, yesterday, said his organisation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, visited 64 orphanages in the state.
He maintained that the group’s intervention would focus on orphanages, elderly care homes, children with special needs and the mentally challenged, with a view to identifying needs and proffering solutions.
He said SWIPI’s long-term sustainability could be achieved by collaborations and partnerships, either technical, financial or otherwise. He disclosed that SWIPI would be formally launched tomorrow to gain more visibility and partners to achieve all its goals.
“Some of the gaps noticed were mostly in infrastructure, medical, education, nutrition and training. As an example, we have delivered a training curriculum, using world-class facilitators. The feedback has been improved knowledge and delivery of care by care givers in the homes,” he said.
Another member of the team, Ijeoma Ejiofor, added that SWIPI’s objective is improving the quality of social welfare administration, saying intervention has been made in donation of critical equipment and training.
