G60 hails Jumbo’s emergence as Rivers Speaker, want by-election for vacant seats

Victor Oko Jumbo

A group of federal lawmakers belonging to the opposition parties in the National Assembly known as the G60, have hailed the emergence of Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, the lawmaker Representing Bonny Local Government Area State Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, as the new speaker of the state assembly.

Jumbo is emerging after the resignation of Rt. Hon. Edion Ehie, now the Chief of Staff to the state government.

The opposition lawmakers, in a statement by its spokesperson, Hon Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, passed a vote of confidence on the new speaker, urging him to work together with Governor Siminalayi Fubara to continue ensuring that Rivers people get dividends of democracy.

The federal lawmakers noted that “with this emergence, the political madness and legislative rascality, being perpetrated by former House of Assembly members will come to an end.”

They urged Governor Fubara to commence prosecution against the lawmakers using the magistrate court to arraign them for impersonation.

They also called on Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately conduct “a bye election” to replace the vacant seats of the 27 Rivers lawmakers, whom the G60 described as “former members.”
