FUOYE VC urges Tinubu to set up think-tank committee over country’s challenges

Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, yesterday, urged President Bola Tinubu to set up a think-tank committee to help the Federal Government overcome the challenges facing the country.

Fasina, who was reacting to the gruesome murder of two monarchs in Ekiti State, which he described as “a sacrilegious offence by the bandits,” said that such a committee would help the government think out of the box for solutions to the problems.

The vice chancellor said that the government could not be doing things the same way and expect different results, adding that there are many people both in academia and outside who could serve in such committees and help the government navigate the challenges.

Fasina, who spoke during a media briefing to herald the eighth convocation of the university held at FUOYE campus in Oye-Ekiti, said that the country had been turned to a killing-field by idle people, saying that if people are gainfully engaged in productive things, all these won’t be happening.

He said that the solution to the current challenges facing the country is not by migrating abroad, saying that ‘japa’ won’t solve the problem because those countries are already tightening their migration laws as they might wake up one day and ask us to go back to our country.

Meanwhile, the vice chancellor has said that the university would be constructing an independent power plant to take care of the electricity needs of FUOYE campuses and its environs.

This was just as he said that a new six-storey Senate Building would be constructed, adding that TETFund had already given approval for its construction.

He, however, said that no fewer than three individuals, including the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Solomon Adeola and a member of the House of Representatives, Adamu Gagdi, would be conferred with the honorary doctorate degrees during the convocation ceremony.
