Free Iftar meal: Foundation feeds 3,000 people daily in Ajeromi/Ifelodun Community

Francis Barthlomew Chima

To ameliorate the suffering of the masses amid untold hunger and hardship bedevilling  the country, the LEGIT Foundation, a non-profit making organisation founded by Mr. Francis Barthlomew Chima (Omo Barca), has been giving out food to over 3,000 people daily  in Ajegunle area of Lagos in the spirit of Ramadan. The idea is to help Muslims to break their fast and also support individuals who have challenges to feed.

He said the free food for the masses would continue till the end of Ramadan. Chima said it is to put a smile on the faces of the people.

He explained that one cow is being slaughtered each day with three bags of rice cooked and served to thousands that besiege the centre located on Mba Street, Ajegunle, adding that the Foundation had consistently fed thousands of people, especially during the Ramadan,  for the past 10 years.

Chima stressed that providing food for the masses “is also a way of  supporting the government,” and the programme has no political or religious inclination, but revealed that LEGIT Foundation usually takes food to different locations every evening to feed those in need.

He said: “Bringing joy to the masses gives me Joy. Giving is part of me and I am happy when others are happy. I started giving people free food, especially during Ramadan since 2015. Since I am receiving God’s benevolence, and as long as God provides for me, I will continue to give to others.

What I am doing has no political inclination, I am following God’s instruction on giving. I love what I am doing, God gave me the resources, I must expend on others. What I am doing is beyond religion or an inspiration. I am doing it all for God, and I will do it as long as God gives me life.”

Chima said through her pet project “Ajegunle Must Smile,” the foundation recently gave 10kg bag of rice and N5,000 cash gift to some residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun to ameliorate their hardship.

He urged Nigerians to focus on God, the sole provider and source of hope. Many beneficiaries, who are widows, physically-challenged, the needy, vulnerable children, single mothers, youths and the homeless, described the LEGIT Foundation’s kind gesture as uncommon. They called on other kind-hearted and wealthy Nigerians to emulate the foundation.

“ We thank God for his kindness. This is an unusual goodness. If we have three of Chima’s like in this country, Nigeria  will be a better place,” they said.
