Firm to build 3,000 affordable homes

To make housing accessible for Nigerians, a real estate firm, AS Wonder Homes & Properties plans to build 3,000-unit affordable houses in two states and Abuja.

Through the schemes in Abuja, Lagos and Borno States, the company said Nigerians could own affordable houses.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the firm, Ambassador Dr. Agbi Stephen, who disclosed this at the opening of its new office in Lagos, said: “We understand the challenges people are facing in getting a property of their own. You would need at least N10 million or N20 million before you begin to make plans to own a home, we don’t want that any more.

“We want a Nigeria, where individuals with their monthly income, a mortgage firm can aid and ensure that they acquire property without having millions in their account.

“But we cannot do it as individuals. We’ve secured approval for constructing about 3,000 housing units and some mortgage banks are going to work with us to provide 1,000 units each in Abuja, Lagos and Borno States.”

He decried the housing deficit in the country, pledging to use the opportunity to provide solutions for low-cost and affordable housing, by creating a platform for an average person, low-income person and low salary earner to own a property in the country.

On accessibility and affordability of houses, the CEO said, “Individually, we’ve been providing affordable land and houses for our customers and investors. We’ve a plan that allows you to pay N50, 000 monthly, these are done individually, but with the help of the current government, we will come up with better schemes. It’s going to be a public-private partnership. We’ve sent a proposal to President Bola Tinubu and some governors across the country.”

He, therefore, called for collaboration and partnership with states and the Federal Government to ensure access to affordable housing in the country.
