Firm sensitises stakeholders on food seasoning safety, quality

A firm, Ajinomoto Foods Nigeria Limited (AFN) has engaged medical experts, caterers and media practitioners on the safety, quality and health benefits of food seasoning products in the human body.

The firm, while taking the members of the Association of Medical Officers of Health of Nigeria, (AMOHN), Lagos State Chapter; Lagos State Caterers and Decorators Association (LSCDA), and Health Writers Association of Nigeria (HEWAN) on a tour of its facility in Apapa, Lagos to witness the production process, also dispelled the rumours about the Japanese product.


Receiving the stakeholders, Managing Director of Ajinomoto Foods Nigeria Limited, Mr. Noriyuki Ogushi, said engaging different stakeholders on the safety and quality of their products would help dispel unscientific rumours about the food seasoning, which has been in existence for over 100 years and used in no less than 130 countries across the world.

Ogushi said the philosophy of the company was to contribute to the wellbeing of all human beings, the society and the planet through “AminoScience.”

Ogushi stated that the seasoning also known as Umami or Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) was safe for consumption, assuring the stakeholders that the safety of the product had long been scientifically proven and approved by global authorised agencies.

In her presentation, the Corporate Communications Manager of the company, Francisca Ikediashi, told the stakeholders that the season helps in salt reduction in food.

She explained that MSG is a sodium salt of glutamic acid, which is an amino acid that is naturally in the human body and present in all food, especially in protein-rich foods.

On his part, the Chairman of AMOHN, Dr. Tunde Osoba, commended the safety practices and quality standards observed in the facility, while encouraging manufacturers in the state to emulate an environment that is clean and tidy.

President, Lagos State Caterers and Decorators Association, Olajumoke Abraham-Agbelusi, said rumours about the food seasoning were untrue based on her many years of experience using the product.

She said the food seasoning is safe for consumption and helps a lot in reducing the intake of salt in food.
