Firm pushes for renewable energy adoption

WiSolar, an on-demand prepaid solar utility, has said there is a need for electricity as accessible and affordable as home WiFi across Africa.

With rising population and huge solar energy deficits, African countries like Nigeria with huge renewable potential have struggled to maintain grip connectivity and provide electricity to unserved and underserved regions.

The organisation, pledging to double down in Nigeria said revolutionizing the accessibility of solar energy is germane to reducing energy poverty in the country.

The Chief Executive Officer at Wisolar, Tonye Irims, said there is a need to eliminate barriers by streamlining the process to ensure that customers recharge their solar electricity 24/7 from anywhere using an app.

“With the WiSolar app, customers can instantly view their remaining days and kilowatt-hours (kWh) balance. It’s like topping up your prepaid mobile data or adding credit to your WiFi router,” he said.

Irims said applications help customers keep track of their electricity consumption throughout the month while providing usage history, trends, and projections, complete with graphs.

Stressing affordability, he noted that low-carbon, affordable electricity on a pay-per-kWh basis is critical, stressing that customers only pay for what they use.

Irims noted that the company has fine-tuned a plan that enables property developers and corporate organisations to join a network, adding that by completing Know Your Customer (KYC) verifications within the app, customers could start earning commissions from customer recharges.

He said Accredited Solar Partner Installers on WiSolar’s network in South Africa and Nigeria also earn commissions on solar installations as well as maintenance tasks, adding that the company’s approach aims to democratize solar energy, making it accessible to everyone across Africa.
