Firm promises to prioritise workers’ wellbeing, safety

The Group Managing Director (GMD) of Chemstar Group, Adedayo Paseda, has restated the company’s commitment to enhance the safety and welfare of workers, saying the management, as its major priority, considered it worthy to ensure a healthy and valuable workforce.

He disclosed this during the 2024 Chemstar Industries Limited Health & Safety Week, with the theme: “Personal Health and Workplace Safety in a Challenging Economy.”

The Health & Safety Week is a yearly event to broaden the knowledge of the group’s members of staff on how to live a healthy lifestyle, keep their body fit and keep the environment safe.

Activities for the week-long event, which coincided with the 29th Founder’s Day Anniversary of the company, include a health talk by Prof. Osunkalu Oluseye, a professor of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL); medical check; HMO enlightenment; safety & nutrition talk, among others.

Paseda said that despite the challenging economy in which income and salary have not increased proportionately, there is still the need for a sound and healthy workforce and environment.

Osunkalu, who advised the workers to live a healthy lifestyle, said that prevention is better than curative, hence the need for the staff to maintain quality living and a safe environment.

Also, Managing Director of Matrag Foods Ltd, Dr Tunde Olaniya, said the week was introduced to create awareness among members of staff to take their health seriously, particularly to promote healthy living and a safe working environment.

He said that the HMO enlightenment was to educate the workers about the health policy that was introduced by the company two years ago, especially the benefits of the policy and to interface with the HMO officials on how to further engage their services.

Chief Fire Officer/Head Fire & Rescue Unit of LASBCA, Johnson-Agiri Funmilayo, lauded the management for being safety conscious and partnering with the state fire service.

Johnson-Agiri, who spoke on the need for investments in workplace safety, advised the company on the need for fire safety marshals, who should be regularly trained.
