Southern youths begin sensitisation on CVR
The Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Idemili South Council of Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Obimma Emmanuel (a.k.a. Ebube Muonso), has said that the endless focus on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the Federal Government is to take attention off myriads of problems facing Nigeria.
The cleric stated at his Adoration Ministry arena at the weekend. His words: “Kanu’s arrest and repatriation to Nigeria is a big distraction and deviation from the major issues facing the country and its people.”
The Rector of Blessed Iwene Tansi Pilgrimage Centre and Parish Priest of the Blessed Iwene Tansi Parish, Umudioka, all in Anambra State, insisted that Nigeria’s problem was hydra-headed, and, therefore, must be tackled with a hydra-headed solution.
“The arrest and repatriation of the IPOB leader is a kind of leaving the substance and pursuing the shadow. Instead of exerting energy in pursuing IPOB members, who are merely seeking self-determination, the Federal Government could have employed experts that would tackle insecurity. They should also engage experts to manage the economy.
“Youths roaming the streets should be provided with jobs, so that criminality will reduce. Hunger and lack of economic opportunities beget restiveness. Let government do the needful, because Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB are not the major problems. I am personally surprised that Nigerian government has this kind of security strategy to nab the IPOB leader from a foreign land, but it is not able to tame the tide of insecurity occasioned by the activities of Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen.”
MEANWHILE, Southern youths have begun sensitisation to ensure that all eligible youths participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) across the 17 states of the region.
The youths, which met in Awka, Anambra State, under the aegis of Southern Youths Initiative for Good Leadership (SYIGL), said they would use their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to make the needed electoral changes for the country beginning with the 2023 general elections.
In a statement released after the meeting signed by the President General/Chairman, Board of Trustees, Nnama Onyeka; and Secretary, Noke Ikenna, the group stated that the only way they could play active role in the governance of the country was by obtaining their voters cards to enable them vote and be voted for during elections.
SYIGL vowed to support the political aspirations of youths in the 17 southern states to enable them occupy various elective offices in 2023.
