The proposed piece of legislation also seeks to extend the years of service for teachers from 35 to 40 years.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in a letter, addressed to Senate President Ahmad Lawan and read on the floor of the chamber, explained that the piece of legislation would provide for harmonised retirement age for tutors in the country.
He said the effort was to alter Section 58(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
BESIDES, Lawan referred the President’s request for confirmation of Major General Farouk Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to the Committees on Defence and Army, with the former being the lead to screen the military chief.
