Family seeks justice as police probe killing of two-year-old in Delta

Ivan’s father

The family of two-year-old Ivan Eromonsele Omorhiakogbe, killed last Thursday by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Okpanam, Delta State, has called for justice.

Omorhiakogbe was allegedly killed by a stray bullet fired by the NDLEA officials, while his younger brother was injured during a raid of suspected drug dealers in Okpanam Oshimili North Local Council area of the state. His brother, who was injured in the eye, was rushed to an eye clinic for treatment, but the family insisted that justice must be served.

The Guardian gathered that the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd) and the state Commissioner of Police, Wale Abbas, have ordered investigation into the matter.

Spokesperson for the command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bright Edafe, who confirmed the development, said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) as directed by CP Abbas.

While regretting the unfortunate incident, Edafe assured that the police would carry out a thorough investigation on the matter. He said all parties involved have been invited to a meeting at the police headquarters, Asaba, today.
