Canadian rapper and songwriter Drake has fired shots at fellow rapper A$AP Rocky in the diss track, Family Matters. The song originally targeted Kendrick Lamar, who dropped back-to-back diss tracks Euphoria and 6:16 in LA.
The lyrics of the song are pointed and direct, with Drake calling out A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, for his comments about Drake’s personal life. Rocky had previously called Drake out in the song, Show Of Hands, on Future and Metro Boomin’s album, We Still Don’t Trust You.
Drake raps: “Call up Pluto, Metro, should’ve put me on the first one. N**s swear they bi*ch the baddest, I just bagged the worst one/ N**s in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or something? I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son.”
This implies that A$AP had relations with Drake’s baby mama before she birthed Drake’s son, Adonis.
Drake then replied on another track, referencing his past relationship with Rihanna, who is now dating A$AP. He raps in the song, “Rakim talking sh*t again, gassed cause you hit my BM first. N**a do the math, who I was hitting then?”
He doesn’t stop there; he continues to question Rocky’s relevance in the music industry, rapping: “I ain’t even know you rap still cause they only talking ’bout your fit again.”
This is a clear jab at A$AP Rocky’s well-known interest in fashion and his reputation for being a style icon.
The song takes another personal turn as Drake suggests that A$AP Rocky’s music career might be in need of a boost. “Probably gotta have a kid again before you think of dropping any shit again. Even when you do drop they gon’ say you should’ve modelled cause it’s mid again,” he raps.
As of now, A$AP Rocky has not responded to the diss track.
